Priddy Folk Festival, Sunday 14 July 2024

In preparation for Priddy

Additional rehearsal at the Memorial Hall at Pill on Sunday,  7th July from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

This will not replace the rehearsal scheduled for 21st July, which will take place as planned.

There is no need to sign up for the additional rehearsal, but apologies from members who cannot attend would be appreciated.

Message from David Francis – organiser of Priddy Folk Festival:

I would like to invite Brigstowe to come and play on Sunday 14 July, morning 11 – 12/ 12.30 in the Village Hall  and was  thinking of building the event around the suggestion of exploring the tunes and life of Thomas Hardy. I am afraid I cannot offer festival tickets to the band but there will be a lot of good,  free stuff going on. I can make a modest donation to the bands funds.

Redcatch Community Garden Wassail, Redcatch Park, Knowle, Bristol. BS4 2RD, 2.30pm, Sunday 14 January 2024

Directions to Redcatch Community Gardens:

Dear BVB

Below is the DRAFT playlist  for the above . It is largely the Treefest / St Edyth’s playlist with the carols omitted and some   wassail tunes, that Alison   has rehearsed added  .

At present we are only being requested to play background music – perhaps with a couple of songs and a bit of Briggy thrown in. It should be  be a nice relaxing play

I must emphasise  that this is a   draft list

 I will  amend it when..

i)I am absolutely   sure of who will be there to play introductions etc  – some members are still away

and have not confirmed attendance

ii) I have been to the venue.

Although  I have had helpful e mail correspondence/ discussion with Ed Gilbert   (who has secured us this gig )  , and with Redcatch ; because of the   Christmas  New Year holiday   they are not able to meet with Colin and I until January 9th . The final playlist will follow then

Pre-gig practice.

This will be held at 23 The Crescent   on Friday 5th   January, 7 pm .

At the moment    6 people have signed up for the pre gig  . 13 are signed up to play . This does not justify paying hall hire at Pill – so it will be an   cosy   gathering in   our kitchen at 23  ! Let me know if you are coming and have not   yet   signed up  .

with best wishes for a Happy New Year

Liz

AGM postponed but rehearsal today as normal

A message from the Gaffer:

Dear Brigstowe Band,

Apologies that this is short notice but we are postponing the AGM today because I have Covid. We will run it next month with the same set of arrangements. Alison has suggested that we finish today at four as normal but sadly I will not see you this month. Do remember to sign up for the hobbyhorse workshop.

Best wishes,

Liz

Portishead Seniors 22nd November

Dear BVB members

This   is the final playlist for Wednesday 22nd .

PLEASE

i),  read it carefully;

ii) listen to Alison’s recording for the Tide Coming In, although listening to all recordings, would not come amiss.

Details of   when to arrive from Lyn are under News Including Gig Information and Setlists. We are hoping we can get in from 1.50

I also hope we have the opportunity to talk through the programme in one of the small rooms  off the outside entrance ( the council offices are upstairs so it is always open )- and  because  I  have had to make changes.    Particularly those of you who couldn’t make Friday’s rehearsal get there early

Break a leg !

best wishes,

Liz

Radnor Road Street Party, Saturday 16 September. Information and Setlist

Dear all,
Thank you for confirming that you got my previous communication.  I attach the playlist and a map.  Please contact me with any comments or suggestions regarding the arrangements.  Roland will be playing chords on the guitar to help us keep in time.
We’ll meet at 2.00 p.m to start playing at 2.30.  Green room, toilets and refreshments will be at 74 Radnor Road.  Parking is just inside the cordoned off area near the junction with Beloe Road (blue circle on map).  We’ll be playing on the drive of no. 88 in an event shelter which may be slightly too small to accommodate all of us.  Fiddles and flute please be prepared to play standing up.
Please car share if possible.  If you approach with a vehicle from Kellaway Avenue, you will need to travel via Longmead Ave, Maple Rd and Beloe Road to reach the designated parking area.
I hope this is the complete information.
Looking forward to playing with you on Saturday

Briggy revisited with Steve Rowley

CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS

Briggy revisited… Tuesday 21st November at 2.30 pm . Venue: 23 The Crescent BS9 4RP

I have some time, been wanting to get Steve Rowley  back  ( – surname familiar ? )  ,  reprise  his  Hobby Horse workshop session that he ran for BVB in May 2018 ( he also runs a hobby horse parade at Sidmouth on the Sunday of the festival ) . His ‘horse’ management notes are on the Brigstowe website .

Steve has offered us Tuesday 21st November at 2.30 pm . Venue will probably be my kitchen at 23 The Crescent BS9 4RP

His last visit was very entertaining and I hope we can give him a good audience . Friends/ partners welcome – no charge , but if Steve wants to stay for a meal I may ask you to bring food for an American Supper .

I will take numbers at the next rehearsal  ( Mary , Chris M, Helen – I already have you )

Best wishes

Liz
